Motherwort – A Divine Heart Healer

Motherwort – A Divine Heart Healer

Motherwort, or Leonurus cardiaca is a herb that holds the key to heart healing. In this blog post, I am going to deep dive the insights I have received from working closely with motherwort. I will share with you her wisdom that she offers to us all and how she supports heart healing.

Herbs as Healers

First, I feel it is important to share my unique perspective on how I see herbal medicine. I see herbs as healers, spirit guides embodied in plant form here to guide humanity.

Each herb offers a unique set of healing properties. We can see this from a evidence based or scientific viewpoint – say wound healing or anti-viral support.

But let’s go a little deeper. I like to look at it energetically – herbs offer energetic attunement based on a particular symptom set. Further, I see my role as the herbalist to connect the best possible herb with each client at that moment.

I could give dozens of examples of how only a few herbs will be supportive to the client in that moment. I’ve noticed this particularly relating to the realm of stress and anxiety. In cases where motherwort will support the issue at hand, it has a particular ‘feel’ to it.

I consider it a blessing and my greatest joy to cultivate this type of magic with my clients.

Motherwort in Western Herbal Medicine

Motherwort in a western herbal medicine approach has the following applications:

-hyperthyroidism
-heart palpitations
-anxiety
-nervous tachycardia
-ovarian pain
–and dysmenorrhoea to name a few

These are all wonderful applications for motherwort in a ‘physical body symptom set matching’ type of approach. But motherwort offers a particular type of healing which is astounding and beautiful to witness.

Her magic is not often talked about, but she shared it with me directly one day. Here’s the story about the first time motherwort and I really communicated deeply.

A Client Story – Motherwort In Action

I had a client walk in to the herbal shop where I previously worked. She was literally all over the show with stress – bordering on having a panic attack.

The client asked for a super calming herbal blend to help. She had some big stressful news come her way and wasn’t coping well. I recall there being other compounding factors at play, and her nervous system had reached its absolute limit.

This lady was talking fast, moving fast, and was so tightly wound! I asked her one simple question that I ask everyone who I work with. Where are you feeling this? This question gets people out of their heads trying to mentally understand what is happening with their bodies. It gets them back into themselves, grounded, and connecting with what their body is communicating (often loudly).

Immediately, she put her hands on her heart and said right here. And just acknowledging that fact for herself, I could see the tension start to unwind.

And in response, I immediately said motherwort. As I approached the herbal medicine shelf and reached for the motherwort tincture, something special happened.

I felt a portal between motherwort and I open and dialogue between us start to flow. I’ll cover that in a bit more depth soon.

Back to the client story! I blended up a formula for the lady – motherwort, lavender, passionflower and maybe some california poppy. I had her take a dose right there and again, another layer of stress melts off her before my eyes.

She even said – wow, I feel so much better already. That’s because motherwort worked energetically on her instantly. When the herb is the right match, you are likely to feel an instant sense of peace as you connect with the spirit of the plant.

Conversations with Motherwort

Later that evening, motherwort visited me in my dreams. I often get prophetic dreams so this was not surprising to me.

She spoke very clearly to me about her gifts and how she helps and supports humans.

Think of motherwort as the ultimate heart healer – the love from your mother to you, as a baby. Being a mother myself, I can easily resonate with what she is saying here.

She offers the gift of unconditional love, and also way-shows how to love yourself. She opens up pathways within the heart chakra to learn to love again. Motherwort supports you to trust yourself, but also to be kind to yourself.

Motherwort has the most amazing ability to take the ‘shock’ out of a highly emotional situation, and immediately smooth things over. Again, think back to the mother – baby example before. A baby crying and needing comfort is soothed by a cuddle from their mother.

Try visualise the strength of the love that a mother vibrates for her baby, and how the baby is engulfed in this safe, protective energy.

This is exactly how motherwort supports us. She surrounds us with a loving, protective motherly energy to give us comfort. She soothes our emotional hurts, and gives us strength to regulate our own emotions. We can then have the emotional resilience to move forward independently with optimism.

I also feel that if we carry any personal ‘mother’ wounds from our own upbringing, motherwort supports this area of healing too.

I feel such a deep sense of compassion for the need of motherwort in society today. Although that is probably a topic for a different blog post, I will simply say that a healthy society starts with a healthy mother.

If the mother in the family is not cared for, loved, protected, supported and cherished, how can healthy families truly thrive in the world? This is why I am so deeply passionate about supporting women with their health and well being.

I know in my heart that if women are balanced and well, they are empowered to raise incredible children. These children are the future, who can go out and create positive change in the world.
